Preston 3072
Preston is a large Melbourne suburb located 9kms north of the CBD. It is part of the City of Darebin with a population of over 28,000 people.
Preston was originally called Irishtown. Church members from England wanted to change the name to Brighton, a town in their former home in Sussex but that name was already taken so they named it after Preston, a small village also in Sussex, where the church members had annual outings.
As it is such a large suburb Preston has all of the amenities that would be expected including schools, parks, sporting clubs, shopping centres, cafes and restaurants.
