Canterbury 3126
Canterbury is a suburb located in Melbourne 10kms from the CBD and is part of the City of Boroondara. Its population is approx. 8,000.
Canterbury was semi-rural until 1882 when the rail line was opened. The area was then subdivided from around 1885 into the Claremont Park Estate situated between Canterbury Road, Bryson Street, Prospect Hill Road and Logan Street.
In 1900 the Monomeath Estate was subdivided which is now known as Monomeath Avenue.
It is now an exclusive area renowned for its leafy streets and large homes with a number of well-known Australians have lived in Canterbury.
It is the home to many prestigious private schools, including Camberwell Grammar School, Camberwell Girls Grammar School and Strathcona Baptist Girls Grammar School.
