Black Rock is a small bayside suburb of Melbourne with a population of approx. 6,000 people. It is located approx. 18kms from the CBD and is part of the City of Bayside.
Black Rock was named after Black Rock House which was built by Charles Ebden in 1856. Charles Ebden was a pastoralist, businessman and parliamentarian representing the seat of Brighton. The name “Black Rock” originates from Dublin.
Black Rock has very popular beaches and is home to the Black Rock Yacht Club, the sunken HMVS Cerberus which is popular for divers and protects the breakwater at Half Moon Bay, the Black Rock Clock Tower and the world renowned Royal Metropolitan Golf Club.
