How to Select a Painter
Is the painter a member of Master Painters Association?
What is their MPA number?
Will the work be performed with employees?
It is much easier to control a painting project with staff rather than external subcontractors.
Does the painter have staff?
Is the painter a “one man band?” What back-up does the painter have if he/she falls sick or has issues with your project?
Is the painter properly insured?
What is their public liability cover (it should be at least $10m).
Do they provide workcover for their staff?
What experience does your painter possess?
How long has the painter been in business for?
Can they provide the name of clients you can call to reference check them?
Did the painter spend sufficient time with you checking the work and did they provide a detailed quote?
The scope of the work needs to be clearly defined including areas to be painted, materials to be used, number of coats to be applied and preparation procedures. If your painter hasn’t specified what he/she intends to do, how do you know that you have communicated clearly and that you will receive what you are expecting?
